A few days ago I felt the urge to get out into nature and photograph something completely different than what I've been shooting, perhaps to keep in balance the photography yin-yang. Since taking a History of Photography class over a decade ago, starting me down the path I'm still following today, the images of the
Pictorialists at the turn of the 20th century have stuck with me. They were strange, enigmatic, and beautiful. I also think there's something poetic about using a machine, that was a modern marvel at the time, to achieve effects completely contrary to that idea. Sometimes you've just got to get out there and do something completely different for a new perspective. It was good. I think I'll have to do more experiments along these lines.
