Cooking with Beer

Just in time for Thanksgiving here's some work I did for Craft Beer & Brewing for their "Cooking with Beer" special issue. So many great recipes and ideas for pairing beers with food, beers with cheese, and beer with glasses! Even got to take a trip down to Boulder to photograph BRU's Ian Clark who melds the worlds of the kitchen and the brew room in rather tasty ways.

Craft Beer & Brewing

Over the last few months I've had the privilege to shoot for the premiere issue of Craft Beer & Brewing. It was exciting to see it take shape over that time. When I first spoke with them in January it wasn't much more than a collection of ideas and a pocketful of dreams, and now it is something that is tangible, something that can be held and something to behold. At the risk of evoking Bill Hader's Stefon, this magazine has everything: tips from micro brewers, head brewers, and the humble home brewer; an in-depth look at the foeder forrest of New Belgium Brewery; reviews of 40 IPAs (I've tasted and compared 12 so far); the best definition of "complex" flavor I've ever heard (any definition which includes "used Kleenex" has my vote); gear reviews; recipes to brew your own IPAs; and recipes that include cooking with beer (milk stout brownies?! Yes!), and much much more. There's enough here to propel your piquant explorations for quite a while. I believe it will be available, out there somewhere in the ether, April 8th, so be on the look out. I can't wait to get started on the next issue and do it all over again. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a home brew that needs bottling. Cheers!

Bread and Crumbs

The other night Charlene made some amazing olive and roasted tomato bread. I had to get some shots of it when it came out of the oven. In the morning, there were only crumbs.

Dinner

Homemade mini-pizzas with chicken, black olives, green pepper, and artichokes, topped with a 3-cheese blend. Another benefit of a home studio- you make it you shoot it! Hopefully, you can shoot it before it gets cold! It just adds a dimension of simulated "real-world" pressure. You gotta be ready and shoot fast...or fall prey to evil hungry glares of others!

A Bar B Que Story

One picture package just leads to another. This is a bbq joint in town, it's called Moe's. They do Alabama style bbq, but there's something in there about Wisconsin and I'm not sure what it is.
