Hazel and Buckwheat

Hazel is our latest foster...actually, we lost the battle on this one and she is the newest member of the family. It's always difficult not to keep them all, but Hazel fit right in and knew it, too. She made herself right at home on the first day, then she and Buckwheat must have played for a week straight. Speaking of Buckwheat, of course he had to get into the act as well...

Great Sand Dunes National Park

After visiting Taos, we hit the sand dunes on the way back. One of the amazing things was that all of the foot steps that were there the evening before were gone by the next morning creating a smooth canvas to work from. Which is really what you want when photographing sand, unless you're shooting for some type of inspirational calendar, then maybe you want foot steps. More from the dunes in B&W to come.

San Francisco de Asis Church, Taos, New Mexico

I recently returned from a trip down to Taos, New Mexico. Many of the old masters used to photograph down there and I can see why. The sun certainly shines down uninhibited creating sharp shadows and bringing out the texture of things. This church, San Francisco de Asis, located at the southern part of Taos, was photographed many time by Ansel Adams and Paul Strand just to name a couple. Georgia O'Keefe made it a subject of several of her paintings. It was pretty amazing walking around in the ghost of their footsteps.
